Archives For CV Products

If Kevin Harvick had to pick one racetrack for a “win-or-go-home” scenario, CV Products Trackside team wouldn’t fault him for choosing Phoenix International Raceway. That’s because Harvick boasts a series-best five wins at the one-mile tri-oval and has taken the checkered flag in three of the last four races there, including the past two.

That’s just one of the storylines we’re following with respect to this weekend’s racing action. Here’s the rest:

Series: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
When: Friday, November 7
Racetrack: Phoenix International Raceway — Phoenix, AZ
What to Watch for: It’s down to the seasoned veteran versus the rising star in tonight’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship battle. With just two races left in the 2015 campaign, defending champion Matt Crafton leads Ryan Blaney by 23 points heading into tonight’s Lucas Oil 150. No matter the outcome at the final race of the year — Homestead — at least one championship record will be set. Crafton would be the first back-to-back champion in the 20-year history of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, while Blaney would be the series’ youngest champion at 20 years, 10 months and 14 days. Before heading to Miami, the two drivers will go at it Phoenix International Raceway for Friday’s Lucas Oil 150 (right now on FOX Sports 1 but the racing hasn’t started yet due to a power outage). Both have performed well at the one-mile tri-oval. Blaney boasts a pair of top-10 finishes in as many starts, while Crafton has four top-five and nine top-10 showings in 13 races at Phoenix. Neither has won there.

Series: NASCAR Nationwide Series
When: Saturday, November 8
Racetrack: Phoenix International Raceway — Phoenix, AZ
What You Need to Know:

  1. The NASCAR Nationwide Series championship is Chase Elliott’s to lose.
  2. The rest of the final positions are in flux.
  3. Regan Smith’s second-place position in the series standings is susceptible to challenge by third-place Brian Scott (-15 behind Smith), fourth-place Elliott Sadler (-20) and fifth-place Ty Dillon (-27).
  4. When the series went to Phoenix earlier this season, three of these four drivers finished in the top 10, with Sadler claiming the best finish of the four at sixth-place; followed by Smith (eighth) and Dillon (10th). Scott finished 11th.
  5. If Smith can hold on to second-place in the points, it will be his best series career standings finish – his previous best was third last season.

One week after getting bounced from the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the checkered flag at Martinsville to become the first non-championship-qualifying driver to win a race in NASCAR’s playoffs this season. Despite winning one week too late, the victory was an important one, because like all of the drivers in all of the races we’re supporting this weekend, no one’s racing for anything but a trip to victory lane.

Speaking of victory lane, here’s where to find us this weekend (and remember, you’ll need a pit pass to get to where we are at each of the races listed below):

ncwts_texas_winstarworldcasinoandresort350Winstar World Casino and Resort 350

Series: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
When: Friday, October 31
Racetrack: Texas Motor Speedway — Fort Worth, TX
Here’s how this one played out: Kyle Busch won his seventh NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race of the season last night and the 42nd of his storied Truck Series career. Busch was dominant all night, leading more laps than anyone else (80), cruising to victory at the Winstar World Casino and Resort 350 under caution as a couple of the trucks behind him wrecked on the final lap. Tonight’s win marked the 10th time Busch has visited victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway, and the 42nd time he’s walked away with a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win. With only two races left in the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series campaign, Matt Crafton — the winner of two races this season and the defending series champion — maintains his series lead over Ryan Blaney by 23 points. If you’re wondering why it is that Busch — who has seven Tuck Series victories this season alone — isn’t leading the series point standings himself, that’s because he doesn’t qualify for series points on account of not racing in the series full-time.

Series: NASCAR Nationwide Series
When: Saturday, November 1
Racetrack: Texas Motor Speedway — Fort Worth, TX
What you need to know: The NASCAR Nationwide Series is coming off a two-week layoff. Brian Scott had the second-best average finish (8.6) behind points leader Chase Elliott (7.0). Scott has posted six top fives and 20 top 10s this season – a series career best. His season-to-date driver rating of 101.4 and average running position of 7.4 are both second-best among series championship contenders. Scott has made nine starts at Texas posting two top 10s. Elliott Sadler, fourth in the point standings, is closing just two points back from third-place Brian Scott. Sadler has posted one win (Talladega), six top fives, 22 top 10s and an average finish of 9.7 this season. He moved to fourth in the standings following his ninth-place finish at Charlotte a few weeks ago. Sadler has made 13 starts at Texas posting three top fives, seven top 10s and two poles.

Charlie-Fisher

Charlie Fisher of Fisher Racing Engines

We can’t think of a single thing that makes us happier than having an engine builder tell us how much they like one of our products — and that holds true for every racing item we manufacture here at CV Products.

Take our XTS belt drive for sprint cars, for example. We know it’s a great system and apparently, so do our customers. A proven race winner, our belt drive features a two-piece design aluminum hard-anodized cam gear that not only eases, but also reduces the time to degree the camshaft.

Charlie Fisher of Fisher Racing Engines in Plain City, Ohio, is a big fan of our XTS product, but he admits had some doubts about using our belt on his sprint car engines. He said the camshaft drive systems in sprint cars are often subject to additional loads from the oil pump, magneto, power-steering pump and the fuel pump.

Nevertheless, he banked on obtaining more power and dependability and went ahead and pulled the trigger on running our XTS belt drive system.

But let’s let Fisher describe his experience:

“I immediately noticed during dyno testing that our detonation light does not come on when the engine is properly fueled and timed. Before this, it would come on two times during a run. I am seeing 0.1- to 1-horsepower per cylinder again when using the belt drive in conjunction with the crank trigger. Often we see a loss of top end power with a crank trigger due to lack of retard.”

Before we get into the nitty gritty of this storyline-rich round, a quick primer of the Eliminator Round – the final hurdle before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Only eight drivers remain in championship contention as the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup kicks off its Eliminator Round with the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway tomorrow.

Points for the remaining drivers in the Chase – Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin – have been reset to 4,000. Following Martinsville, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will visit Texas Motor Speedway (Nov. 2 at 3 pm ET on ESPN) and conclude the Eliminator Round at Phoenix International Raceway (Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN). Like the previous two Chase segments, a win by a championship-eligible driver guarantees advancement to Homestead. The four winless championship-qualifying drivers lowest in points will be “eliminated” after Phoenix. The advancing four drivers left in NASCAR’s Playoffs will move on to the one-race Championship Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Nov. 16, 3 p.m. ET on ESPN).

Series: NASCAR Nationwide Series
When: Friday, October 10
Racetrack: Charlotte Motor Speedway — Charlotte, NC
How this one played out: While Chase Elliott inched closer to becoming the first Rookie of the Year candidate to lay claim to the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship, it was Brad Keselowski who stole the show earlier this evening by tracking down his teammate, Ryan Blaney, to win the 2014 installment of the Drive for the Cure 300. Elliott, who finished a respectable eighth, now commands a 42 point lead in the Nationwide Series championship points standings, while Keselowski — who isn’t eligible for points — notched his fourth Nationwide Series win of the year and the 31st such win since he started racing in the series in 2006.

Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
When: Saturday, October 11
Racetrack: Charlotte Motor Speedway — Charlotte, NC
How to watch the race from home: 7pm ET on ABC (racing starts at 7:30pm)
What you need to know: Jimmie Johnson holds the all-time wins record at Charlotte Motor Speedway with seven victories, and can qualify for the Eliminator Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup with another win at the 1.5-mile Beast of the Southeast. But that doesn’t assure Johnson of a victory. Look for Sprint Cup series points leader Joey Logano to fair well. That’s because in 11 Charlotte starts, he has claimed three top-five and six top-10 finishes! And then of course there’s Brad Keselowski, who earlier this evening won the Nationwide series race, and who last year took the checkered flag in this very same race.
How to find us: Our Trackside crew will be in the pits (a pit pass is required for entry).

Series: ARCA CRA Super Series
When: Saturday, October 11 — Sunday, October 12
Racetrack: Winchester Speedway — Winchester, Indiana

What you need to know: Watch for last year’s winner, 18-year-old Cody Coughlin, to repeat again this year. That’s because Coughlin, who just wrapped up a successful rookie season on the ARCA Racing Series, dominated this race last year, leading all 100 laps. The year before that, as a 16-year-old, he finished 7th. West Virginia University Engineering student Travis Braden is looking to claim his second straight CRA Super Series championship on Sunday. He comes into Sunday’s race with a 25-point lead over second place Ross Kenseth. If neither driver earns points on Saturday, then Braden needs to finish 13th or better and he will repeat as Champion.
How to find us: The good folks on the CV Products Trackside team will be in the pits (you must have a pit pass to gain entry).

CV Products Motorcycle GiveawayThe NASCAR Foundation has quite a track record — absolutely no pun intended — when it comes to raising funds to support nonprofit charities and causes, especially those that affect the ability for children to learn how to win, both inside and outside of the classroom.

This year, we here at CV Products have partnered with The NASCAR Foundation because we’re just as dedicated to helping kids across the country. To support The NASCAR Foundation’s efforts, we are offering a 2014 custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle as the grand prize in a drawing to be held in mid-May.

Why are we getting into the act? Because we’re mightily impressed with The NASCAR Foundation’s mission of helping children learn how to win.

The organization embodies the compassion of the NASCAR industry, and since 2006 has committed nearly $18 million dollars to initiatives that inspire children around the country to live, learn and play.

Evidence of The Foundation’s impact can be found on the smiles of thousands of children attending schools that now have Continue reading
