Archives For April 2013

Editor’s Note: Today we’re pleased to share our third vendor profile, highlighting the history, products and accomplishments of one of the many high-performance auto racing brand we specialize in here at CV Products. This time around, we’re putting the klieg lights on Mahle Clevite, a 93-year-old manufacturer of bearings, bushings and piston rings made especially for the racing industry. Here at CV Products, we carry three of the company’s lines: Clevite cam bearings, Clevite rod bearings, and Clevite piston rings.

Mahle began in 1920 as a small German test workshop that soon determined it needed to develop some auto products to sell in order to finance the combustion engine testing performed there. Back then, pistons were made of heavy cast iron. The Mahle brothers — Hermann and Ernst — were instrumental in helping the company develop the first light alloy pistons in Germany. Then, in order to keep dirt and dust out of the engines they were testing, they developed air and oil filters. As their aluminum pistons became increasingly popular, the company grew.

And by grow, we mean Mahle is now among the top 30 automotive suppliers worldwide and one of the three largest suppliers of piston systems, cylinder components, valve train systems, air management systems and liquid management systems on this planet. The company has about 48,000 employees working in 100 production plants and seven research and development centers worldwide.

But what’s more important to those of us who like our keep our racing machines at a constant top speed is Mahle’s high-quality components for motorsport. We’re talking about auto racing pistons, piston rings, piston pins, connecting rods, bearings and bushings that have been Continue reading

ToyotaCare 250

ncr_toyotacare250_logo_4cIn Richmond on Friday, Kyle Busch will attempt the rare feat of winning his fourth consecutive race. So far, Sam Ard is the only driver who’s done it — and that was way back in 1983! Meanwhile, Jeffrey Earnhardt (the son of Kerry Earnhardt and grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt), will pilot the No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Friday for 10-time NMPA Most Popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. — who just happens to be his uncle.

Toyota Owners 400

ncr_toyotaowners_logo_4c_Drivers for Richard Childress Racing have yet to score a top five finish this year, but that could change at RCR-friendly Richmond. Kevin Harvick won at Richmond in a Chevrolet in 2011 — the only non-Toyota victory in the past eight Richmond races. And in last year’s fall Richmond race, both Harvick and Virginia native Jeff Burton scored Top 10 finishes. Meanwhile, Mr. “Win or Go Home,” Kyle Busch, is approaching two impressive laps-led milestones going into Richmond. With three more laps led, he’ll reach 9,000 laps led in the NSCS. And he’s nearing the 25,000 laps-led mark in his NASCAR career. He’s currently at 24,837, needing 163 laps led to reach 25K.

Racing Radios 125 Lap Southern Super Series Late Model Event presented by Schoenfeld Headers

The first Southern Super Series race in Nashville earlier this month was a huge success and Bubba Pollard made history by winning the first Southern Super Series Race event. But a pair of young racers will be out to do damage on Saturday. This will be Ross Kenseth’s first chance at a SSS victory and Daniel Hemric’s first shot at dethroning Pollard from atop the series’ standings. Kenseth is fresh off a stellar 2012 campaign that saw him Continue reading

CV-Products-Anniversary-LogoIf you’ve spent any time at all hanging around a garage or visiting various auto racetracks, you’ve heard about Performance Springs Inc. (PSI) and its humble valve springs that pretty much changed the look — and speed — of NASCAR by introducing unheard of technological innovations.

Well, guess what? If you come to our shop or visit us online today — and today only — we’ll sell you a set of PSI valve springs and then toss in a valve cover gasket for a V-8 Chevy or Ford engine for absolutely free!

Why the PSI deal? It’s partly because PSI is every bit as passionate about introducing the latest technology to the auto racing world as we are here at CV Products.

But on top of that, today is the 25th of the month. April 25 to be exact. And on the 25th of every month through 2013, we’re hosting mini-celebrations of CV Products 25th anniversary — which as you might have guessed — is this year. So in honor of our silver anniversary, we’re offering deals to our valued customers.

Keep in mind that this deal applies today only, and only on gaskets in stock, limited to a $30 discount. We’re currently offering springs for circle track, drag and road racing.

If you want to take advantage of our anniversary offering for April, phone in your order to (800) 448-1223 or place your order online at www.cvproducts.com. If you’ve already got PSI valve springs, or you’re not interested this time around, stay tuned for next month’s 25th Anniversary sales special. That’ll be on May 25, of course!

That’s right. It’s going to be another very busy race weekend for the CV Products on-the-road crews with participation planned in seven events occurring in six states. We’ll be selling racing equipment and apparel at a bunch of these events, including a pair of races at the Kansas Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. For those on the Left Coast, there’s the Le Mans Series in Long Beach, California, where racers take over the city’s streets in a long-standing competition.

So check out the races below and see if you can pencil one or two for this mid-April weekend. Here’s where we’ll be:

He won three more races during the 2012 season to capture the series championship. In the dozen years this race has taken place in Kansas City, there has been a different winner each year.

It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend for those of us at CV Products who tour the auto racing circuit with our tractor-trailers stocked with racing equipment, parts and apparel. This week, we have a presence at a NASCAR event in Florida, a pair of races in Texas, another in Tennessee and three separate tracks in North Carolina.

The idea is for us to be readily at hand when a race crew finds they are in dire need of, say, a new fuel filter or replacement connector rods. Instead of a mad dash into the nearest town that sells race gear, our huge 53-foot-long trailers and other well-stocked vehicles most likely have all the equipment a race team could desire. Same holds true for amateur racers and spectators alike. We’ve got the gear for your ride and the apparel for your body. These are race shops on wheels is what they are.

That being said, here’s the rundown for this weekend’s race events:

Racers will compete on this asphalt half-mile oval, hopefully completing 150 laps (75 miles) on 15-degree corners and 9-degree straights. Only five drivers in Saturday’s event have ever raced at Five Flags. This is the first stand-alone, points-paying race in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East history in Florida.

  • When: Saturday, April 13
  • Racetrack: Five Flags Speedway
  • Location: Pensacola, Florida

The flag goes up at 6:30 p.m. for the NASCAR Sprint Cup & Nationwide Series NRA 500, featuring 334 laps (501 miles) around the 1.5-mile oval track that includes 24-degree turns and 5-degree straightaways. This will be the first Texas Motor Speedway event sponsored by the National Rifle Association, but organizers say this isn’t a political rally. No one will be stuffing NRA leaflets into the hands of spectators or making speeches.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 is the sixth race on the 2013 Nationwide Series schedule, with Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick sharing the record for most wins at this racetrack with five each. The 200-lap race gets underway at 7:30 p.m. This is the first night race of the season for the Nationwide Series and the second mile-and-a-half track on the schedule.

Happenings at the Rockingham Speedway this weekend feature 43 trucks on the preliminary entry list, including Sprint Cup invader Kasey Kahne who won last year’s truck race at “The Rock.” Kahne is not entered in this year’s race. What drivers face are big transitions in the corner, going from a flat straightaway to 22-degree banks in turns 1 and 2 and 25-degree banks in turns 3 and 4. That’s some pretty tall banking. This one-mile racetrack can Continue reading
