Archives For Pocono Raceway

poconologothumb13The Associated Press perceived a lot of whining about extended periods of boredom at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend, with NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers grousing over their inability to pass other cars during the Brickyard 400 and raising the silly notion of putting in a second banked lane.

But there’s little chance of a snooze fest this weekend, with two NASCAR races and an ARCA event scheduled at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., a venue that offers plenty of passing opportunities for impatient drivers. The Trackside crews from CV Products will be on hand at these three races — and three more — this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering trailer loads of race equipment for drivers and others who hold coveted pit passes.

Here’s what the racing card holds for this weekend:

gobowlingthumbJimmy Johnson is a 3-to-1 favorite for this event — most likely because he’s already won three Pocono races in his career, and a sweep this year at the 2.5-mile track would come as no surprise. After all, he swept the season at Pocono back in 2004. Then add in this factoid: Johnson also had the best car at Indianapolis last weekend, leading 73 of 160 laps.

A trifecta of auto races appear on the stock car racing calendar this weekend, with NASCAR teams scattered all around the country, marking the only time this year that each series will assemble in a different state at the same time. In total, there’s a pair of parties at the Poconos, another trio of races in the vowel states (that’s Iowa and Ohio), and a Pro All Stars Series in Virginia.

As we do every week — and as we do so well — we’ll have big semi-trucks full of gear on hand for those racing and for those with pit passes. If you can’t make it out to any of these races, we’ve provided info — where available — on how to watch or listen from home.

Party in the Poconos 400

partypoconosthumb13The Top 10 racers appearing at this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race have had mixed results at Pocono, with six of those competitors yet to win at “The Tricky Triangle.” Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch — drivers with differing Pocono successes — also make that list. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon share a combined seven NASCAR Sprint Cup titles and are the current Wild Card holders as the regular season moves into its second half.
