Archives For June 2013

CV_Everywhere-TruckIncluding this weekend’s races, our Trackside Support Services Program has appeared at 92 different races so far this year, and we’ve still got a long way to go before the season comes to an end in November at Homestead-Miami Speedway just prior to Thanksgiving. This weekend we’ll be available at all three NASCAR series races (Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World), as well as on hand for the ARCA race in Winchester, Ind., and the GRAND-AM race at Watkins Glen in upstate NY.

Here’s the detailed lowdown on where to find us this Thursday through Saturday:

Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts

quakerstateadvautopartsthumbThe Race to the Chase gets underway for all intents and purposes this weekend at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. While every point is important in a 26-race regular season, none are more important than points the drivers can secure over the course of the 10 races leading up to the Chase itself. This weekend’s Quaker State 400 marks the first of those races in which drivers and their teams can earn points to qualify them for the Chase. Jimmie Johnson and the #48 team remain in first place in the Sprint Cup Series Standings with 573 points. Twenty-five points behind is Carl Edwards and the #99 team, followed by Clint Bowyer (#15) who sits 45 points back, and Kevin Harvick (#29) who trails by 63 points.

  • Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
  • When: Saturday, June 29
  • Racetrack: Kentucky Speedway – Sparta, KY
  • Broadcast Schedule: 6:30 p.m. ET on TNT, and Ch. 90 on Sirius XM

Feed the Children 300

ftc_300_11thumbThis year’s Nationwide Series title is still very much up for grabs. Heading into last week’s road race in Wisconsin, driver Regan Smith was enjoying a comfortable 58-point lead in the series standings over Sam Hornish Jr. This week, as the Nationwide series travels to Kentucky for Friday night’s Feed the Children 300, Smith’s lead has shrunk to just 28 points. Not only did Smith lose ground last weekend but the race’s runner-up — Justin Allgaier — leapfrogged Hornish in the standings to assume second place. Hornish is now third in the Nationwide series points standings, two points behind Allgaier, followed by Austin Dillon and Elliott Sadler.

  • Series: NASCAR Nationwide Series
  • When: Friday, June 28
  • Racetrack: Kentucky Speedway – Sparta, KY
  • Broadcast Schedule: 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN, and Ch. 90 on Sirius XM
  • Note: CV’s trailer is available for teams and spectators with pit passes
  • More info on this race is available online at KentuckySpeedway.com

Herr’s Chase the Taste 200

herrschasethetaste200logoYouth will likely lead the way on Sunday at Winchester Speedway in Indiana. That’s because of three of the drivers entered in the Herr’s Chase the Taste 200 are teenagers. Currently second in the points standings, 18-year-old Mason Mingus is coming off of a Top 10 finish at last week’s SCOTT 160 at Road America. Not far behind are 17-year-old Austin Self, who finished 6th in his ARCA debut in May at Toledo, and 15-year-old Kyle Benjamin — who already has two 2nd place finishes in ARCA races this season.

  • When: Sunday, June 30

Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen

Sahlen_GlenThis year will mark the 32nd running of the Six Hours of the Glen, making the race at Watkins Glen one of the longest standing endurance sport car races in the world. Located in the Finger Lake Region of New York, the 11-turn, 3.4-mile Watkins Glen International long course is one of the premier road racing facilities in the United States. And when the drivers take to the course this weekend for the 8th race in the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series, there will be six drivers separated by just three points at the top of the Daytona Prototype standings, and six more drivers separated by a mere 12 points in the Grand Touring standings.

Seems like just yesterday, but another month has rolled around and — more specifically — another 25th of the month is almost here. And for those of us who keep track of such things here at CV Products, it’s time for our sixth round of promotional deals for our customers.

CV-Products-Anniversary-LogoWe’re celebrating a quarter of a century in business this year, and each month during 2013 we’re offering savings on our gear, equipment and track apparel on the 25th of that month to correspond with our 25th anniversary.

This month, the 25th falls on a Tuesday. And what that means to you, fellow celebrant, is that we’re offering everyone who makes a purchase on that day — whether its via our website, by phone a stroll through our doors — a rebate of 5 percent of what you spend on your next CV Products purchase.

That means if you spend a thousand dollars on the 25th of June, you get a rebate of $50 for your next order — as long as it’s placed on or before July 25 by phone or walk-in. Once a purchase is made on the 25th of June via the CV website, phone or walk-in, a note is made to your CV account of the amount of the rebate.

Heck, we’ll even call you around the 20th of July if you haven’t yet redeemed your rebate, reminding you that it’s available and you should get hopping if you want to take advantage of the savings.

Like everything else in life, there are rules and restrictions, and here’s ours regarding this promotion: Continue reading

This weekend marks the halfway point in the 2013 NASCAR racing season, and what better way to celebrate than to crisscross the country with truckloads full of the best high performance auto racing gear, equipment and accessories for race teams and consumers alike. From Sonoma Raceway in California and Road America in Wisconsin, to Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina, we’re geographically diverse this weekend, which is just the way we like it!

Here’s the rundown:

25th Annual Toyota/Save Mart 350

Sonoma Raceway in the southern Sonoma Mountains near Sonoma, Calif., plays host to this weekend’s Toyota/Save Mart 350, a 219-mile race over a 1.99-mile road course. In 2012, Clint Bowyer earned his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series road-course victory at Sonoma. This year, Boyer sits in third place in the Cup standings, trailing Carl Edwards by 18 points, and Jimmie Johnson by 49 points. Lucky for Boyer, Johnson’s average finish at Sonoma is 14, while Edwards’ is 17.

Johnsonville Sausage 200 Presented by Menards

They say there’s always a first time for everything, and this Saturday, the NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader Regan Smith will make his first start at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Although he has never competed at the 4.05-mile road course in 116 series starts, Smith has raced four times on road courses. Tune in this Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN to see how Smith and a couple dozen other drivers fair.

SCOTT 160

Nationwide Series drivers won’t be the only ones testing their skills this weekend at Road America. ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America) drivers will warm up the road course starting at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday with a 160-mile race of their own. And in an interesting twist of events, NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Continue reading

To say Bill Wheatley is a man who wears many hats would be an understatement. It would also constitute dredging up an archaic expression that’s become old hat (another archaic expression), so we just aren’t going to go there. Let’s simply say that Bill is a busy man here at CV Products. As product specialist, his job has grown exponentially over the past 23 years, including a decade as the company’s purchasing director.

Bill Wheatly CV Products

Bill Wheatley, CV Products

Today, Bill coordinates patent applications, performs training for the sales staff on new products and other topics, and is a member of our New Product Introductory committee. In addition, he runs testing for CV customers and experimental testing for Xceldyne on the company’s Spintron. He also orders shelf stock from Xceldyne, schedules production priorities for the Job Shop, and is the contract manager for work done by Xceldyne for customers in the aerospace industry. He’s a self-described 911 guy — the person folks go to when they need something technical completed in a timely manner. Like yesterday.

And with that introduction, here’s a Q&A to which we subjected this busy man before he headed off for some other task:

CV Products: Where did you go to college and what did you study?

Bill Wheatley: My college years were spent at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Three years in engineering, then four years in the Air Force, followed by two more years back at the University of Arizona.

CV: What did you do prior to coming to work for CV Products?

Wheatley: Here in the south I worked for Ram Automotive, then Kenny Bernstein’s NASCAR team and then Jerry Hemmingson, who manufactures the Jerico four-speed transmission. After that, I helped Roy Hill start his drag race school.

CV: What attracted you to CV Products?

Wheatley: It’s a small company and the owner is a good, honest person.

CV: When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Wheatley: Maintain the Wheatley family estate, visit my kids, and Continue reading

CV Products’ trackside schedule calls for a quartet of racetrack events this weekend, with three of them taking place at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), nestled on a more-than 1,400-acre parcel in the scenic Irish Hills. With 18 degree banking and 73-foot wide sweeping turns, MIS offers drivers a two-mile oval with three and four grooves to play with. We’ll be in the pits for all three of those events, offering stock car racing equipment for drivers and their teams. And if you find yourself in Lexington, Ohio, this weekend, we’ll be on ground level at the Diamond Cellar Classic.

Quicken Loans 400

quickenloans_400For Dale Earnhardt Jr., Michigan International Speedway holds a special place in his heart because that’s where he picked up his last two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins. Jimmie Johnson currently leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings with 521 points, but he has yet to win a race in 22 Cup appearance at the Irish Hills. Carl Edwards is second with 470 and Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Kevin Harvick round out the top five.

Alliance Truck Parts 250

11_alliance_tp_250_thumbAustin Dillon set a NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying record at MIS of 190.375 mph to garner the pole for the 2012 race, but it’s been a bunch of Sprint Cup Series drivers who have dominated the Nationwide Series races thus far in 2013. There’s Kyle Busch, who has garnering six wins and Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Tony Stewart each winning one race. Nationwide Series regulars Trevor Bayne, Sam Hornish Jr., and Regan Smith all have one win on the season. Joey Logano is the defending race champion.

Patriots Pumps 200

patriotpumps200logomis2013This year marks the 32nd appearance by the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at MIS, with Chris Buescher on hand to defend his 2012 win. At 78 wins, Frank Kimmel is one win away from tying Iggy Katona’s all-time win mark in the ARCA Racing Series. Kimmel’s also got more wins at MIS than Continue reading

A trifecta of auto races appear on the stock car racing calendar this weekend, with NASCAR teams scattered all around the country, marking the only time this year that each series will assemble in a different state at the same time. In total, there’s a pair of parties at the Poconos, another trio of races in the vowel states (that’s Iowa and Ohio), and a Pro All Stars Series in Virginia.

As we do every week — and as we do so well — we’ll have big semi-trucks full of gear on hand for those racing and for those with pit passes. If you can’t make it out to any of these races, we’ve provided info — where available — on how to watch or listen from home.

Party in the Poconos 400

partypoconosthumb13The Top 10 racers appearing at this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race have had mixed results at Pocono, with six of those competitors yet to win at “The Tricky Triangle.” Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch — drivers with differing Pocono successes — also make that list. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon share a combined seven NASCAR Sprint Cup titles and are the current Wild Card holders as the regular season moves into its second half.

Regan Smith, the Nationwide Series points leader, finds himself on new territory, having never raced at Iowa Speedway. For now, Smith holds a 27-point lead over Sam Hornish Jr.
