This promises to be a busy week on the auto racing circuit, what with three events at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, another pair in Florida and a Pro All Stars Series (PASS) race in South Carolina on the agenda.
What’s especially exciting this week are the races scheduled at Bristol Motor Speedway, where the short, half-mile track is guaranteed to make for some spectacular spectator opportunities — lots of fender benders, hurt feelings, and drama galore. It’s better than the soaps on TV!
And if you find yourself in the pits or garages of any of these races, pay close attention to the gear the crews are attaching to these high-performance auto-racing machines. That’s right. Many of those CV parts and accessories that you rely on for your amateur race pursuits are standard on these racecars.

Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals
The 44th running of this traditional East Coast season opener not only caters to Pro Stock Motorcycle fans, but also is the first of 10 races for Pro Mod drivers. This drag strip has been an early spring break Mecca for motorheads and their fans for more than four decades.

Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300
If you have a NASCAR race named after you, you might be a redneck. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy plans to be at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday for his Grit Chips 300 Nationwide Series race. Running 300 laps (159.9 miles), the fourth race on the 2013 Nationwide Series begins at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on the half-mile stadium oval. Ten fans will be awarded a new Ford Mustang this weekend before the start of the Food City 500.

Drive4COPD 125
The Drive4COPD 125 is the finale of a Saturday doubleheader at Bristol Motor Speedway that includes the Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 Nationwide Series race. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 4:45 p.m. Eastern Time at what has been called the world’s fastest half-mile. Preceding and following the race are St. Patrick’s Day festivities that range from green beer and an abundance of giveaways for race fans and their families.

61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
This annual motorsport endurance race takes place on the site of a former World War II Army air base and is the opening round of the American Le Mans Series. This is the 61st running of the event, and the gates are already open and will remain open 24 hours a day through Saturday’s race. Fan favorites for this event include camping inside the green of the race, a Midway featuring official merchandise, food, drinks and attractions. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race links the three largest endurance sports car races together with the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona forming the other legs.

The Bash At The Beach 150
This Super Late Model race is the first PASS (Pro All Star Series ) event ever staged at the historic racing facility, and will see Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, try to make it two wins in a row in PASS South Series competition in his Ford Fusion. Gates open at 11 a.m. Eastern Time with practice runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Qualifying races begin at 4 p.m. and the PASS 150 begins at 7:30 p.m.

Food City 500
This is the race we chatted up at the top of this blog post! We’re talking about five hundred laps around the world’s fastest half-mile track, preceded by a night of live entertainment, food and refreshments – including green beer. Country music’s Phoenix Stone, whose single “100 Proof Moonshine” is climbing the charts, takes the stage at 7 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday night. Tim Montana and His Shrednecks open for Stone. Reality stars Tim and Tickle from Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” fame also are part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration lineup.
