Chris-Horton-CV-ProductsLate last year, the head honchos here at CV Products got together to choose our Employee of The Year. Officially recognized with the Larry “Bunk” Nichols Award for outstanding achievement, the employee of the year must meet specific criteria, including:

  • Work at the company or one of our subsidiaries for at least three (3) years
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic
  • Support humanitarian efforts
  • Uphold our three core values (integrity, teamwork, and safety)

Our 2013 employee of the year – CV’s Continuous Improvement Facilitator, Chris Horton – certainly lived up to the standards we set for outstanding achievement. This October, Chris will celebrate his 15-year anniversary with our company. After joining us in 1999, he worked his way up through the warehouse to the Warehouse Manager position before being promoted to his current job.

A volunteer firefighter in our local community, Chris was instrumental in the success of two recent projects here at CV. As many people know, in April of 2013, we acquired Cycra Racing Systems. What you may not know is that Chris was a member of the team that Continue reading

The good news is this: CV Products is making an appearance at series races in Georgia and Florida this weekend. The bad news? World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) legend Ric Flare will be a no-show as Grand Marshall of the ARCA CRA Super Series on Saturday and Sunday, due to some other event called the Royal Rumble.

photo 2And while we accept his gracious apology to WWE fans and race fans alike, there’s going to be plenty of other entertainment and 325 laps of late model racing action at the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga.

On top of that, CV Products already has one of our fully stocked tractor-trailers at the Tudor United Sportscar Championship, underway through Sunday at Daytona International Speedway.

So you can participate in the smack down action at this Royal Rumble thing, or you can attend one of two exciting racing venues this weekend. The choice is yours.

martinsville speedwayTwo NASCAR events fill the racing world’s dance card this weekend — both at Martinsville Speedway in southern Virginia and both offering plenty of late-October action. And speaking of action, CV Products will be in the pits for both Saturday and Sunday’s races at Martinsville, offering our usual truckloads of racing equipment, parts and apparel for drivers and teams alike.

Note: In addition to the events listed below, we’ll also be in Memphis, Tenn., for this weekend’s CRA All-Stars 125, and the ARCA/CRA Super Series 125. For more info, visit the Memphis International Speedway’s website.

Kroger 200

kroger200thumbThe 200-lap NASCAR Camping World Truck Series gets underway at 1:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, with FOX Sports 1 coverage beginning at 1 p.m., as well as radio coverage on MRN and Sirius XM Channel 90. Johnny Sauter’s win last week at Talladega Superspeedway puts him in good position, and his three wins this season top the field of drivers with eligible points. He’s been in the Top 10 finishers in five out of the last six races and ranks sixth in points. Of course, it doesn’t hurt a bit that Kyle Busch — the series leader — won’t be in this race. Those who will be showing up include three drivers making their first career truck start at the Virginia track. Daniel Hemric and John Hunter Nemechek will attempt to make their series debuts in the Kroger 200, while Ben Kennedy making his fourth series start. Kennedy’s debut in the trucks was in August at Bristol and he has a season-best finish of 15th in Iowa in September.

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 26
  • Racetrack: Martinsville Speedway
  • Location: Martinsville, Virginia
  • Note: CV’s trailer is in the pits and available for people with pit passes only

Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 presented by Kroger

goodys500thumbWith eight victories under his belt at Martinsville, Jimmie Johnson is truly a rock star at the track some refer to as the “paperclip.” He leads the pack in driver rating (123.8), average finish (5.3) and has finished on the lead lap 22 times in a row. And now this five-time series champion is in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup leader. Johnson won the event in his first three championship seasons, and to date, every Chase era champion has finished among the top 10 in Martinsville’s second event. The flag goes down on this 500-lap event at 1:30 p.m. (ET), with coverage beginning at 1 p.m. on ESPN, MRN radio and Sirius XM Ch. 90.

It’s looking to be a hectic weekend for racecar drivers, their fans and those of us here at CV Products who travel around to racetracks on a weekly basis. We’ve got a pair of NASCAR races out of Talladega and another NASCAR event in Georgia, an American Lemans Series — also in Georgia — along with the Pro All Stars Series in North Carolina, and the season finale of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in Ohio. Look for our enormous — and spiffy — 18-wheelers in the pits at all these events. We’ve got gear for every type of race team possible!

Here are the particulars:

Orange Blossom Special 500

A carload of race fans can get into the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) event at the Orange County Speedway for twenty bucks on Saturday to enjoy watching 150 laps of super late model action. Cram more than four adults in the car and the extras will pay only $5 each. Any additional adults in a vehicle with more than four adults will only be charged $5 more per person. And if you live the area, you might know third-generation racer Tate Fogleman who’s garnered more training and experience at Orange County than any other track.

  • Series: Pro All Stars Series
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19
  • Racetrack: Orange County Speedway
  • Location: Rougemont, North Carolina
  • Note: CV’s trailer is in the pits and available for people with pit passes only

33rd Annual Red Buck Dirt Track World Championship

This is it! The season finale for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season and it all wraps up with the 33rd annual Red Buck Dirt Track World Championships. This event is promoted by Carl Short, and has been for the past 32 years. Jim Dunn won that first event, only to die two years later while competing in a NDRA event. In Dunn’s honor, Carl Short added the Jim Dunn non-qualifiers race to the DTWC event schedule as a tribute to the late driver.

  • Series: Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series
  • When: Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19
  • Racetrack: Portsmouth Raceway Park
  • Location: West Portsmouth, Ohio

NKNPS East Road Atlanta

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East closes out the season with just five points separating Dylan Kwasniewski and Brett Moffitt atop the championship standings heading into the season finale at Road Atlanta. Kwasniewski, who was last year’s Pro Series West champion, wants to be the first driver to Continue reading

Carl-PittsIt’s only fitting that we’re directing the Meet The Team spotlight on Carl Pitts this time around because this popular CV Products salesman was also just named October employee of the month. That makes it a two-fer for Carl, who joined us back in 2004 and is a salesman on the Mooresville, N.C. sales team.

While we’ll mostly be talking about Carl’s job here, you should know that this active family man has a lot of outside interests, including traveling, woodworking, motorcycling — plus keeping five grandchildren entertained.

So here’s what Carl has to say about his other family — CV Products:

CV Products: What did you do prior to coming to work for CV Products?

Carl Pitts: I worked in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for 26 years in Indiana and Kansas and ended my medical career working at a hospital in Kansas City in charge of medical equipment and supplies. I was the supervisor for the Central Service department.

CV Products: Where did you go to college?

Carl: I’m a 1977 graduate of Ivy Tech College in Indianapolis, Ind.

CV Products: What attracted you to come to work for CV Products?

Carl: I moved to Mooresville, N.C., to follow my passion — which is racing — and I wanted to be part of a company that I could grow with and have stability. I knew CV Products was the No. 1 supplier to the motorsports teams and wanted to be part of this company. I joined the company in 2004.

CV Products: How would you describe an average day for you here at CV Products?

Carl: I provide counter and phone sales to all venues of racing. My day starts at about 7:30 a.m. and I restock the showroom for the day, plumb oil lines, draw up valve prints as requested, and help both phone and walk in customers.

CV Products: What reality TV show should you be on and why would you win or lose?

Carl: It would be Survivor for sure and I would win! My parents taught me survival skills from a young age when we used to camp almost every weekend and most of the summer. My dad taught me about edible plants, how to trap, fish and to make it on your own in the wilderness. With this knowledge and my medical skills I could survive without a doubt.

CV Products: What’s your all-time favorite CV Products item and why?

Carl: The Xceldyne titanium valves. After touring Xceldyne, I was fascinated by the inertia welding process. The minute tolerances that they hold the specs to and the final inspection process are fascinating.

CV Products: What’s one thing not many people know about you?

Carl: That I went to grade school where the movie Hoosiers was filmed.

Charlotte Motor SpeedwayThree out of four racing events for the CV Trackside Program this weekend take place at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, including NASCAR’s Whelen Southern Modified, the Nationwide Series and the Sprint Cup Series and — as is always the case — CV Products will be well represented in this pits with our 18-wheelers towing tons of race products and accessories for drivers and teams alike.

Stop by and chat us up between races, if you’re lucky enough to have a Pit Pass. We love hearing from you.

bojangles_pole_thumbUNOH Southern Slam 150

Things get off to a fast start on Thursday with the Whelen Southern Modifieds on the front stretch quarter-mile track that’s home to tons of NASCAR-level teams and drivers. And if you’re a betting man — or woman — three-time title winner George Brunnhoelzl III and his 32-point lead in the Whelen standings going into this race pretty much spells W-I-N. A finish here makes Brunnhoelzl a four-time Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion.

  • Series: NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified
  • When: Thursday, Oct. 10
  • Racetrack: Charlotte Motor Speedway – Concord, North Carolina
  • Note: CV’s trailer is in the pits and available for people with pit passes only

Winchester Speedway42nd Winchester 400

With some of the top Super Late Model drivers participating in this weekend’s Winchester 400, the competition is guaranteed to be fierce. There’s Daniel Hemric, last year’s CRA All-Stars Tour champion and series all-time winner, a driver who blew out the competition last week, picking up the Blizzard Series title. And Augie Grill, with two Snowball Derby victories and three Southern Super Series wins this season alone. Grill last competed in the Winchester 400 in 2007. Preston Peltier makes his first appearance in the Winchester 400, but is a former PASS South Series champion and wins leader. And 17-year-old Cody Coughlin has two wins in 2013 with the Tour, meaning all he has to do is show up this weekend to claim the CRA All-Stars Tour Championship.

  • Series: CRA Super Series
  • When: Friday, Oct. 11 to Sunday, Oct. 13
  • Racetrack: Winchester Speedway – Winchester, Indiana
  • Note: CV’s trailer is in the pits and available for people with pit passes only
