Archives For February 2013

Editor’s Note: Here is the second of what we hope will be many vendor profiles, highlighting the brands and people that make our company the go-to partner for sales and distribution of high performance auto racing parts and merchandise. Today we’re pleased to feature Performance Springs Inc. (PSI), out of New Hudson, Michigan, a company that is every bit as passionate about introducing the latest technology to the auto racing community as we are. To say PSI changed the NASCAR racing scene is an understatement.

Performance-Springs-LogoIt didn’t take long for PSI to become an industry leader in valve spring applications after its founding back in 1996. NASCAR rules had already placed a ceiling on the horsepower of race engines, which meant engineers had to look to other areas of the engine for additional speed. This concerted search for more power came at a time when the quality of auto racing valve springs was in question. These cast curlicue devices were a serious limiting factor when it came to engine RPMs.

PSI joined in that search for improved power, becoming part of an industry-wide competition that would drive racecar engineers for the next half-dozen years. But what PSI’s engineers knew for sure was that most engine failures at the time were the result of broken valve springs. It was the one major weakness when it came to the design of race engines.

Realizing that the single valve spring has one of the most strenuous jobs in the engine compartment, PSI’s engineers began tinkering around with ways to increase the strength and fatigue resistance of its springs. That led to the development of not only stronger valve springs, but also more compact springs. The fact is that today most of PSI’s valve springs are half the diameter of the ones produced back in the late 1980s.

And they’re stronger after decades of improvement — the result of engineers targeting the task of reducing the number and size of microscopic flaws in the metals used to produce these springs. To achieve these outcomes, PSI’s employees took each spring through a nearly 50-step treatment process. The result was to present to race teams the ability to achieve unprecedented power in their machines without violating NASCAR’s very strict rules on engine development.

Today, PSI uses state-of-the-art CNC equipment to ensure that its valve springs are held to the tightest tolerances in the industry. All of its springs are 100 percent load tested in house with strict quality control procedures at each stage of production.

Here at CV Products, we partner with PSI in the marketing and sales of more than 80 PSI valve springs. Among our offerings: Continue reading

Dealer-Expo-2013One of the most looked-forward-to events for powersports dealers and reps each year is the Dealernews International Dealer Expo, which is underway this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana, featuring hundreds of booths touting thousands of new products for those who make a business of selling anything with handlebars, wheels and an engine.

And our tech-savvy Powersports Division sales staff will be in the midst of this motoring mayhem in Booth No. 2011 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

The Dealernews International Dealer Expo is the motorized Mecca of powersports events, drawing qualified dealers, distributors, aftermarket parts and accessory companies, as well as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to Indianapolis for the largest specialty sports shopping experience on the planet.

Having said that, here’s what CV Product’s Powersports Division (a.k.a CV4) is bringing to the party: Continue reading

Here at CV Products, we pride ourselves with our generous “give, give, give, never take” attitude. And to prove it, we’re offering two free quarts of Lucas, Maxima, or Mobil 1 racing oils when you purchase 12 quarts from our warehouse. Also today only (Friday, Feb. 15), we’re offering a 5 percent discount on any other items from the product line of these find brands.

And since we’re offering a selection of three excellent racing oils from which to choose, we thought we’d offer a rundown on what each offers:

Lucas High Performance Racing Oil is a purpose-built product designed for the high-performance racing industry. It’s blended with an exclusive additive package that includes lubricity agents and anti-seize agents that control drag like a zero weight oil and it protects metal like a heavy multi-viscosity oil. It’s the perfect product for high-rpm and high-horsepower engines.

Key benefits of High Performance Racing Oil include:

  • High zinc fortified
  • Perfect oil for high-rpm engines
  • Extra protection
  • Lower oil temperature
  • Less drag for more horsepower!
  • Compatible With methanol or racing gas

Maxima RS 4-cycle Engine Oil is a full-synthetic, triple ester-based race-grade oil. Its industry-leading additive system offers the ultimate in engine performance and protection. Maxima’s technologically advanced formula contains special anti-wear/extreme pressure additives that go a long way toward protecting critical engine components from extreme loads and peak temperatures generated by high-performance engines. A regenerative, high-viscosity index, synthetic polymer system resists mechanical breakdown and viscosity loss of the oil. RS delivers increased horsepower and torque and superior engine cleanliness. This ensures reduced wear on bearings, cams, lifters, and crankshafts, thus extending engine life. A high zinc/phosphorous formula was specifically engineered for use in flat tappet and roller element engines.

The RS series is available in the following six specific viscosities to better match your engine to conditions and needs: Continue reading

There when you want us!

There when you want us!

Earning a reputation as being dependable is a good thing, and we’ve been hearing that praise from customers for nearly three decades here at CV Products. But being both dependable — and immediately accessible — puts our operation on a whole different level.

And when we say accessible, we’re talking about our CV Products trackside program, a mobile store that will be trackside at more than 200 race events this year, with a total of seven of our product-stocked vehicles attending venues across the country.

Whether you’re a race driver, crewmember, chassis builder or engine builder, there’s always a situation at the race track where you find yourself in need of a replacement part or system, whether that be a new alternator mounting bracket, a fuel pump rebuild or an oil pan gasket.

Our rolling big rigs pull into town and set up shop at the auto racetrack, available both in the pits for teams that are racing as well as our customers sitting up in the stands (locations and access vary from week to week). And if you check the CV Products Blog each Wednesday, you’ll find out which racing events we’ll be attending the upcoming weekend.

If your vehicle isn’t quite ready for the racetrack or you’re in need of some professional assistance in selecting a particular engine part, kit or product, visit CV Products’ North Carolina corporate headquarters and main distribution warehouse in Continue reading
